Layertech Inks Partnership with High Schools and TVET Institutions for Free Coding and Robotics Workshops

Layertech Labs joins TVET institution Southern Luzon Technological College Foundation Inc. and Oro Site High School in its newest roll-out of the Learn2Code Program, wherein high school and senior high school students from rural schools and TVET institutions are given free coding lessons, coding kits, support and opportunities to pursue more advanced courses in STEM. After a 2-month hybrid coding workshop for select students, the learners’ works will be showcased at a ‘coding recital’ wherein potential employers, investors, sponsors, and local policymakers are invited to support inclusive learning in the locality. Then, qualified students will proceed to classes in Robotics and Emerging Tech subjects. While the workshop is open to all, priority is given to girls, PWDs, and students from marginalized groups to promote inclusive learning.

The program also supports mentors/facilitators who regularly check up on the student’s coding progress. This model of learning not only trains the learners but also builds the capacity of the partner schools to adopt a hybrid learning scheme using the latest learning platforms, education tools, and emerging technologies. According to Layertech CEO Frei Sangil, the goal is to train students to be innovative researchers who can effectively navigate through an entire sea of information using digital tools, rather than passive listeners.
