Led by the International Telecommunications Union (ITU), April 24, 2025, was celebrated globally as International Girls in Information Communications Technology (ICT) Day in recognition of all the girls and women in the field of ICT. Layertech Software Labs, together with the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT), and a panel of young women leading the ICT field in the country, joined the celebration.
Layertech co-founder, President, and multi-awarded Data Scientist, Frei Sangil, highlighted Layertech’s Learn2Code and Coding out of Poverty Program, which continues to work for inclusive ICT skills development in rural and marginalized communities in the Philippines. Frei also shared a number of questions about the challenges, strategies, and her experience as a young woman in ICT. Frei acknowledged the support of the partners and stakeholders present in the forum, whom she claimed to have played a significant role in achieving positive results towards the inclusive digitalization advocacy.
The program ended with the official launch of the DICT Digital Innovation for Women Advancement (DIWA) Policy Paper, and a joint commitment to encourage girls and young women to pursue STEM and ICT education, and inspire girls and young women to work in STEM and ICT careers. and engage the community and promote collaboration through partnerships.
