In partnership with Oro Site High School and Southern Luzon Technological College Foundation, Inc. (SLTCFI), 42 students from grades 7 to11 presented their games and software (mostly written in Python) at the Parallel Coder: Learn2Code CODING RECITAL in Legazpi City, Albay PH on May 20, 2023. Each team explained the logic behind their code, their inspiration and objectives, lessons learned, and challenges encountered, within ten minutes. The teams also demonstrated the features of their games and invited guests to try out their games live.
Prior to the recital, the 42 selected high school students underwent a hybrid, self-paced, and gamified training course by Layertech Labs: The Parallel Coder: Learn2Code Fundamentals and Learn2Code Python which lasted for one month. Each student was assigned to one of the 10 facilitators, who monitored their weekly progress and required outputs.
The guest speaker for the recital is none other than the President of the Philippine Software Industry Association (PSIA) and Lord Commander of Spring Valley: Mr. Jonathan Defensor De Luzuriaga. Mr. De Luzuriaga gave an inspirational message to both students and their parents, on top of personally congratulating the young coders after their presentations. Furthermore, Spring Valley is the first partner of the Parallel Coder Franchise when it was first publicly made available in 2020, and a major inspiration in the Parallel Coder story.
To further encourage the students, SLTCFI president Rosemarie Quinto-Rey awarded full-tuition scholarships to selected students for their four-year college courses in SLTCFI.
Did you know that the majority of the Learn2Code participants are girls? The project was rolled out during International Women’s Month! Learn More about the Parallel Coder Franchise in our Learning Portal.
