Layertech Partners with Kaisipan Inc. to Promote Digital Literacy to Filipino Students and Educators

Kaisipan, a Florida-based organization, promotes digital literacy for Filipino students and educators through a variety of learning programs and fellowships. Layertech opens its wide range of learning materials, software, games, and premium e-learning content, FREE, for identified beneficiaries of the partnership.

We asked Ms. Frei Sangil, President of Layertech Labs, Dr. Maria Beebe, President of Kaisipan, and Ms. Toni Torres, Kaisipan Board Secretary, about this partnership:

  1. What is the motivation behind the partnership?

Technology is getting more and more critical in our day to day lives. Especially with the ‘new normal’, transactions get more and more digital. We should strive to get everybody on board. We can only move forward as a community if we don’t leave people behind!

– Frei Sangil

Frei S. – Technology is getting more and more critical in our day-to-day lives. Especially with the ‘new normal’, transactions get more and more digital. We should strive to get everybody on board. We can only move forward as a community if we don’t leave people behind!

Maria B.The partnership means we can “isip” think together and act together to transform learning and teaching through digital education solutions. As educators, we are familiar with the use of technology for e-learning. While we can imagine the ICT solutions needed to improve the quality of learning outcomes, Layertechlab can bring data and tech expertise so what we can imagine becomes possible. The synergy will produce better results and more digital literates who use ICTs for the common good.

Toni T.KaISIPan provides the content, training, and educational leadership. We expect Layertech to provide the ‘E’ in E-education, Layertech will provide and complete the digital framework.

2. What are you most excited about the partnership?

Since we envision “digital literacy for all educators,” we need a way to identify who a digital literate is, what the requisite competencies are, and show progress on a set of cognitive, technical, and humanizing capabilities to use information and communication technologies (ICTs) to iLEARN, iCREATE, and iSHARE.

– Dr. Maria A. Beebe

Maria B.

Toni T. collaboration on how to promote the Open Educational Resources (OER), how various technical partners of KaISIPan will one day, come together and discuss how – together – we will provide ‘equity’ to all, wherever they are, whoever they are.

Frei S. – Layertech is very excited to increase the reach of our software products and learning materials. We’re also very excited to apply the results of the studies and research by the team and our partners and see a real-world impact. It’s our company motto since the beginning, after all: Get Tech to where it’s needed the most!

The ‘girls can code’ training, the whole-of-school-approach that we are embarking into, in a way its a ‘study’ of determining the right approach to digital transformation

– Antonette “Toni” Tirona-Torres

Toni T.The ‘girls can code’ training, the whole-of-school approach that we are embarking into, in a way it’s a ‘study’ of determining the right approach to digital transformation.

Frei S. – Yes, girls can code! To add to that, I’d like to extend specialized learning materials to PWDs and children of low-income families. Not only capacity building, but inclusive digital technology can help these children access job opportunities, learning opportunities, and other opportunities that would have been otherwise inaccessible to them if they could not use tech. By partnering with field experts like Kaisipan, we can increase the reach of our research and tech, and also improve how we make our products more inclusive and effective.

Maria B.Let’s think of a fun way to show and assess digital intelligence. How about gamifying how to develop a growth mindset and other social-emotional skills based on the leadership stories of Filipina women leaders? I look forward to innovating and incubating ideas for locally relevant open content.
