The steady increase in the use of Information Communications Technologies (ICTs) in our day-to-day lives resulted in a growing economy in the digital space. Businesses are now leveraging ICT and data to gain opportunities and advantages online.
This FREE course aims to capacitate Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in using ICT and online platforms, to harness the power of the digital economy.
The 4-part courseware under this project will equip learners with the key competencies and skills needed to securely and efficiently join the digital economy.
Target Audience: Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs)
Prerequisite: Basic computer literacy
Languages Available: English, Armenian, Spanish, Amharic, TokPisin, French, Arabic
Offline Options: Online and offline packages are both available
Learning Objectives:
- Equip MSMEs with the key knowledge and competencies to leverage ICT tools and platforms, and join the digital economy.
- Equip MSMEs with the basic competencies to assess risk and securely transact in the digital economy.
Learning Outputs:
- An e-commerce readiness assessment guide
- (Optional activity) An online business portfolio and/or website
- A digital marketing plan
- An online business management plan
- A cybersecurity checklist
Facilitator’s Module: A facilitator’s module is included in the course, to guide business organizations in deploying this course to their member MSMEs.
Certificate: A certificate is available upon successful completion of the course.

Module 1 - Joining the Digital Economy
Welcome to the “Joining the Digital Economy” module. This is a four-part courseware aimed to equip Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises with the key competencies required to securely and efficiently engage in E-commerce, and join the digital economy. By the end of this module, you should be able to: Understand key terms and concepts related to e-commerce, explore different business opportunities in the digital space, identify key elements and requirements in setting up an online presence for your business, do a self-assessment and design a custom digitalization plan for your business, and finally, you should be able to set up your own online store or online presence for your business.

Module 2 - Marketing Your Online Business
Welcome to the “Marketing Your Online Business” module. This is a four-part courseware aimed to equip Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises with the key competencies required to securely and efficiently engage in e-commerce, and join the digital economy. By the end of this module, you should be able to: Understand key terms and concepts related to digital marketing; Identify your business profile in the online marketplace; Create a digital marketing plan for your business (activity); Explore online marketing tools and platforms, and develop strategies to increase sales; Design and launch your online shop/page and business website (activity).

Module 3 - Managing Your Online Business
Welcome to the “Managing your Online Business” module. This is a four-part courseware aimed to equip Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises with the key competencies required to securely and efficiently engage in E-commerce, and join the digital economy. By the end of this module, you should be able to: Understand key terms and concepts related to online business management; create an online business management plan; explore different business management tools such as e-payment, delivery and logistics; and use basic data and analytics to inform business decision making.

Module 4 - Digital Security Best Practices
Welcome to the “Digital Security Best Practices” module. This is a four-part courseware aimed to equip Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises with the key competencies required to securely and efficiently engage in E-commerce, and join the digital economy. By the end of this module, you should be able to: Understand basic cybersecurity concepts; Recognize common scams, fraud and criminal activities online; Use online security tools and platforms; Learn security best practices for online business platforms and online transactions; Understand global data use rules, regulations, and privacy standards (GDPR, etc.); Create a security checklist for your own online business and transactions (activity).
