Puerto Galera, Oriental Mindoro<\/strong> \u2013 In partnership with Converge ICT Solutions Inc.<\/strong>, LAYERTech Labs<\/strong> traveled to Oriental Mindoro in June 2026 to deliver a series of coding and robotics activities under Converge’s Tech4Good Program<\/strong> and LAYERTech’s Learn2Code Robotics Initiative<\/strong>. The three-day engagement aimed to introduce young learners to emerging technologies while ensuring the sustainability of STEM education in local communities.<\/p>

Building Local Capacity for Sustainable Learning<\/h2>

The program began with a facilitator training workshop attended by volunteers and educators from Stairway Foundation<\/strong> and members of the Baclayan community<\/strong>. Recognizing that meaningful impact extends beyond a single event, the first day focused on equipping local facilitators with the knowledge, skills, and confidence needed to continue robotics and coding activities long after the project’s completion.<\/p>

These dedicated volunteers enthusiastically embraced their role as future mentors, learning how to assemble and program educational robots while exploring effective ways to introduce technology concepts to children and youth. Their commitment reflects the shared vision of creating sustainable and community-driven STEM learning opportunities in Oriental Mindoro.<\/p>

Inspiring Young Boys Through Hands-On Robotics<\/h2>

On the second day, the boys of Stairway Foundation<\/strong> and Puerto Galera Academy<\/strong> took their first steps into the world of robotics. Led by Data Scientist Frei Sangil<\/strong>, together with LAYERTech staff and Stairway Foundation volunteers, participants engaged in hands-on activities that challenged them to assemble, program, and bring their own mini-robots to life.<\/p>

Throughout the training, the learners demonstrated enthusiasm, creativity, and teamwork as they explored how technology can be used to solve problems and create innovative solutions. More importantly, the activity provided an opportunity for the boys to develop critical thinking, collaboration, and problem-solving skills that will be valuable in their future academic and professional journeys.<\/p>

The third day placed the spotlight on the young girls of Baclayan Mangyan School<\/strong>, who enthusiastically explored the exciting world of robotics through the Tech4Good and Learn2Code Robotics programs.<\/p>

Guided by Data Scientist Frei Sangil, LAYERTech staff, and volunteers from Stairway Foundation, the girls eagerly assembled, programmed, and showcased their own robotic creations. Throughout the day, they displayed remarkable curiosity, confidence, creativity, and teamwork.<\/p>

One of the most inspiring moments came during the group presentations, where participants proudly demonstrated their robots and shared their learning experiences. Their excitement and determination served as a powerful reminder that girls belong in STEM and can thrive when provided with opportunities and support.<\/p>
